I work with oil paint on canvas. I work with this medium, as I am able to achieve different levels of transparency and vibrancy in each layer of paint. As the paint has a slower drying rate, it allows me to work on each shade carefully, which is really important when it comes to painting clouds – sometimes even the slightest addition of colour can make a huge difference. My dissertation is about how viewing art can help to decrease anxiety levels. I wanted to link my studio practice with this idea of reducing anxiety through the use of art, however I did not want to force it. The act of painting clouds calms me, and though I have no control over what viewers may feel when seeing my paintings, I hope that it may calm them.
