The theme throughout my practise is Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). A mental illness characterized by patterns of unstable relationships, a distorted identity, and intense emotional reactions. People with the disorder tend to see through a ‘black and white’ lens; things are either incredible or terrible- which is reflected in my work. My interest in this subject comes primarily from personal experience, I am constantly aware that I am facing the world differently to those around me, and by putting this into a physical image that can be seen by others makes me feel more heard. My hope is that my work will raise BPD awareness, help non-sufferers to empathise and make people with the disorder feel less alone. This topic is still taboo in today’s culture, the intention is that my drawings start the conversation many are afraid to bring up.
